History of the Club
In 1994, three local Corvette owners and their spouses got together for a "Fun Run", driving up to the Sun Valley area for Octoberfest. After this, it was brought up that maybe other Vette owners in Southern Idaho would like to participate in similar activities. Hank Heeling and Lee Bunch decided to form the MAGIC VALLEY CORVETTE CLUB. A newsletter was started. By 1995, there were about 12 Corvette owners in the group. Activities included Fun Run's to Jackpot, Stanley and Jackson Hole, Wy. It was decided to keep the group "informal" and not have officers, regular meetings or dues. By 1996, the mailing list for the newsletter had grown to 25 Corvette owners. A Sunday brunch in Jackpot, a weekend in Jackson Hole and the Fall Run to Stanley were now standard. There was talk about having a CORVETTE SHOW in Jackpot the following year. In 1997, the show was held, being sponsored by Cactus Pete's Casino. This event was held in May and a total of 24 Corvettes and 1 Corvette Boat showed up. In 1998, the Jackpot show was again held, this time with twice the the Corvettes showing up as the year before. More Corvette owners were now participating in activities and enthusiasm for the club seemed to be growing. In 1999, the Jackpot Corvette Show was again held, with more than 75 Vettes registered. They came from Oregon, Utah, Montana, Idaho and Washington. Dave Montgomery volunteered to be the Events Coordinator for the club.
By 2000, there was more enthusiasm from local Corvette owners than ever before. The club name was changed to SNAKE RIVER CORVETTES to more accurately reflect the "membership", as there were now members from all across Southern Idaho. In 2000, Con Poulos Cheverolet sponsored a 2-day show in Jerome and Twin Falls, which was well-attended by club members. Some of our members began participating in Valley Corvette's VETTE FEST in Boise and the Corvette's of Southeast Idaho's WILD WEST VETTE FEST in West Yellowstone, Mt.
In the fall of 2000, a group of members who were interested in seeing more Corvette activities in our area met. Lots of things were talked about and excitement had grown within the club. Lee Bunch, after 6 years of being the Newsletter Editor, turned over the duties to Terry Tipton. Dave Montgomery officially was named the Events Coordinator, with Larry Utley as his assistant.
Now, in 2002, the club looks forward to a bright and exciting future. Club activities are growing, along with our membership. In May of this year, Terry Tipton turned the Newsletter Editor duties over to Rick Otto and the Treasurer duties over to Larry Utley.
